Jubilee Years -- finally I understand them
Joshua 14:15b -- Conquest of the Promised Land Completed
"Then the land had rest from war."
Hence, the Israelites started tilling the ground. Forty-nine years later was the first Jubilee Year. The Jubilee is not a separate and distinct calendar year. Instead, it starts on the Day of atonement in the 49th year and goes to the same day of the next year, which is counted as the first year in the next cycle. See Jones, The Chronology of the Old Testament.
Thus, the first Jubilee started in 1395 BC. The 30th Jubilee was in AD 27, the year Jesus read from Isa 61:1-2a, “the acceptable year of YHWH” and “liberty to the captives”: Lu 4:16-21. That is, he read that text when it counted for real, in that Jubilee Year. See the full list of dates at Joshua 14:15b.
